Why "Deer Lightful Yogi"?

The name Deer Lightful Yogi carries a very personal story—one that goes back to the very beginning of my journey.
It all began at a group coaching retreat during a time in my life when I was searching—yearning, really—for a new way to live. I wanted to peel back the layers and discover who I truly was. During the retreat, I was guided through a powerful visualisation to help gain clarity about my goals. At that point, I had never even been to a yoga class, and yet—during that practice—a crystal-clear vision arose in me: I was going to become a yoga teacher.
It was the first time I had ever imagined that possibility, but it came with such certainty, such deep inner knowing, that it moved me profoundly.
As I slowly opened my eyes, taking in the garden outside, I saw something that stopped me in my tracks: two deer had appeared, standing quietly just beyond the window, watching me. I was able to capture a picture of these delightful creatures (it's poor quality, mobile phone cameras weren't great back then!)

It felt like a message from the universe. A moment of magic. A blessing.
That memory has stayed with me ever since. Over the years, deer have come to symbolise so much for me: gentleness, grace, sensitivity, quiet strength, and intuition. They embody the very qualities I hope to cultivate in myself and share with others through my work.
And the name Deer Lightful Yogi? It’s a play on words—a merging of the deer’s presence, the lightness and joy I feel on this path, and the yogic journey I’ve chosen to walk.
To me, it’s a name that holds both spirit and story. A reminder of where I began, and a reflection of how I hope to show up in the world—with light, grace, and authenticity.
