“A-yur-what?” … “Ay-ur-ve-da” … What on earth is that?
If this is what you’re wondering, you’re certainly not alone! That was exactly me when I first heard the word Ayurveda. It took me months to even pronounce it, and even longer to spell it correctly. A few years down the line, though, Ayurveda has become an essential part of my life, interwoven into the framework of my day. I’ve grown to love and appreciate this holistic approach to health and well-being, and I’m excited to share it with you.
So, what is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is an ancient healing system that originated in India thousands of years ago. Its name comes from two Sanskrit words: ayur (life) and veda (knowledge). Put simply, Ayurveda is the “knowledge of life.” It offers an integrated, holistic approach to health and well-being, seeing each of us as unique and deeply connected to the world around us.
At its heart, Ayurveda gives us a framework for understanding ourselves—our body, mind, and spirit—and practical tools for bringing balance into daily life. This may involve adjustments to diet and nutrition, lifestyle choices, daily or seasonal routines, therapeutic herbs and supplements, or healing practices such as yoga, meditation, breathwork, mantra, and massage. In every case, Ayurveda works with the laws of nature, gently guiding us back toward balance, health, and vitality.

If you search online, you’ll quickly come across concepts like the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), the five elements (earth, air, fire, water, space), and terms such as Prana, Tejas, Ojas. Do you need to master all of this to benefit from Ayurveda? Absolutely not—unless you want to. You may also see references to the main pathways Ayurveda uses: diet, lifestyle, therapies, herbs, yoga, meditation, and more. Do you need to do all of them at once? Again, not at all. In fact, it’s often best to start small—choosing one or two practices that resonate with you—and then exploring others when the time feels right.
This is where Ayurvedic Health Coaching comes in.
As an Ayurvedic health coach, I help you discover your unique constitution (dosha) and support you in finding balance through simple, personalized steps. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you’re feeling burned out, sluggish, anxious, or struggling with digestion, sleep, or hormones, Ayurveda offers gentle, time-tested tools to bring you back into harmony.
Coaching is about guidance, not perfection. It’s about helping you live in rhythm with nature and reconnect with your own inner wisdom. It’s empowering, educational, and deeply nurturing—giving you the confidence to make changes that truly support your well-being.
The key, when I first discovered Ayurveda, was having a sense of curiosity and finding the right place to start. For me, working with a coach made all the difference.
